You Lie Like A Penny In The Parking Lot...

    You lie like a priceless Persian rug on a rich man's floor
Well, You lie like a coon dog basking in the sunshine on my porch
Well, You lie like a penny in the parking lot at the grocery store
It just comes way too natural to you
The way you lie

"You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies." John 8:44

"Then the Lord God said to the woman, "What is this you have done?" The woman said, "The serpent deceived me, and I ate." Genesis 3:13

From the beginning of the earth Satan has been deceiving mankind. In today's world we probably don't get lied to by talking snakes, yet, we continue to doubt God's promises. When the lies sink into my heart they create doubt, the doubt creates anger, and the anger turns into depression. For the past couple of weeks I have been fighting this cycle.

Lie - God isn't going to provide

Truth - "I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through Him who gives me strength. And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:11-13,19

Lie - God doesn't care

Truth - "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows." 2 Corinthians 1:3-5

Lie - There is no light at the end of the tunnel

Truth - "For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he already has? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently." Romans 8:24-25

Lie - If things don't happen when I want they won't happen at all

Truth - "We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised. Yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary." Hebrews 6:8, Isaiah 40:31

These are just the few lies that came to the top of my head as I was sitting here today, I know there are more down in there right now that just keep resurfacing. I say all of this to emphasize a core lesson I have been learning about joy recently, joy starts in my mind, joy starts with where I let my mind dwell. The decision is mine, and I going to believe the lies and be miserable, or believe the truths and have joy?

"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things... and the God of peace will be with you" Philippians 4:6-9
